Advanced Teaching Skills

Leading to the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction, Level 3

The Certificate in Advanced Teaching Skills is one of the four core course modules of the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction. It can also be taken as a stand-alone qualification. The course covers the skills needed to become a compentent and professional instructor.

TARGET CANDIDATES

• Individuals who wish to work towards the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction
• Exercise to Music instructors who wish to enhance their qualifications
• Those who are already working as Advanced Instructors but who lack recognised qualifications

PREREQUISITES

• Candidates must be experienced instructors aged 18 or over
• They must already hole a Level 2 Certificate in Exercise to Music Instruction or equivalent
• Candidates must also be teaching Exercise to Music classes on a regular basis.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

• Advanced teachng skills, including:
  • Mirroring
  • Right footing
  • Previewing and preplacement
• Communication, interaction and motivation
• Practical skills
• Verbal and visual cueing and teaching points
• Logical teaching sequences
• Observational skills

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

For those students working towards the full Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction, assessment is by video (see Advanced Studio Instruction course description).

You must hold a current (dated within the past three years) certificate or have maintained Continued Professional Development in these areas.
