The Certificate in Advanced Instructing Gym is one of the five core course modules of the CYQ Certificate in Personal Training. It can also be taken as a stand-alone qualification. The course comprises Advanced Exercise and Fitness Knowledge Level 3, Advanced Resistance Training, Advanced Cardiovascular Training, and inlcudes core stability, flexibility, power, motors skills and periodised programming to meet clients' individual needs. TARGET CANDIDATESThis course is designed for: - Individuals who wish to work towards the CYQ Certificate in Personal Training
- Individuals who wish to work towards the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing
- Gym Instructors or Fitness Supervisors who are seeking to enhance their qualifications
- Those who are already working as Advanced Instructors but who lack a recognised qualification
PREREQUISITESCandidates must be aged 18 or over and must already hold: - Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction or equivalent
- Note: if applying for the full Certificate in Personal Training, candidates must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instruction
- NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Knowledge
- Candidates must have ongoing industry experience
COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe full-time course is held in Cambridge and covers the following subjects: - Exercise & Fitness Knowledge, Level 3
- Training for health, fitness and performance
- Training for endurance, hypertrophy and strength
- Training for power, flexibility, motor skills and core strength
- Progressive programming and periodisation
- Advanced teaching skills
ASSESSMENT PROCEDUREAssessment is held at the YMCA in Cambridge and is in five parts: - Multiple choice Theory Paper
- 12 week Advanced Programme
- Viva – candidates will be assessed on their ability to adapt their programme
- Practical assessment of the candidate's advanced training skills and application of advanced systems
- note: you will be required to bring your client with you to take part in the assessment
- Self-evaluation of the candidate’s own performance
